General Membership meeting held on Saturday May 29, 2010 at the Montauk Fire House
MBPOA Membership kicked off the 2010 summer season with the General Membership Meeting held at the Montauk Fire House on Edgemere Street.  The meeting was well attended by the Membership.  One of the guest speakers was East Hampton Town Supervisor and MBPOA Member Bill Wilkinson.   He mentioned plans to host a meeting in the next few weeks to gather information related to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and whether it will have any impact on the East End’s shores.    Additionally, the various Board Memebers provided updates and information on scheduled beach cleanup dates, finances and plans for the August beach party.   Members had an opportunity to ask questions and get information first hand from our elected and appointed officials.  These meetings are a great way to catch up on what's happening in our Association, Montauk and East Hampton Town.  We generally have several local officials presenting the status on a variety of topics. Make plans to attend the 2011 and meet the Board and other MBPOA members - coffee is provided.   You will also have the opportunity to purchase various MBPOA logo beach items.  See you there!

The Annual MBPOA Beach Party is always a lot of fun and this year we plan to continue the tradition with great food, entertainment, games, contests, raffle and 50/50.   This is a community event and every member is invited.   Stick a few bucks in your shorts or beach bag and plan to test you luck with the raffle and 50/50.   As always, we plan to have a sandcastle contest with prizes for first, second and third winners.  These events are made successful by members coming down early at  9am to help set up and after the event to help pack it all up.   We would like to offer face painting and are looking for a few volunteers to run that activity.   If you have any suggestions you can send an e-mail or call 668-7379.

See you there!   Co-chairs Bob Shurman and Joan Stikeman

We now have a MBPOA Facebook Friend Page.   Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others.   Get connected and join in the conversation with members, friends and family, people like you who have an interest in our Association and in Montauk.  We would like to hear what you are thinking and see relevant content like pictures and video.

A word of caution,  if you are a new user of Facebook we would like to suggest that one takes the time to ensure you have a clear understanding of how to protect your privacy.   There is a very helpful Facebook privacy video  to check out.   This five minute video shows how to configure Facebook's new simplified privacy settings.

Enjoy the 2010 Summer.

Your help is needed to keep the beach and Old Montauk Highway clean!

Did you know that one Saturday or Sunday a month you can help ensure that Old Montauk Highway and our lovely beach will be clear of litter? We really need members to volunteer one Saturday a month to come down to Webster Beach and participate in the cleanup. You know that saying "Many hands make light work?"  So we need you! Mark your calendars for the 2010 dates:

Saturday, July 10 at 9am Webster Beach parking lot
Sunday, August 8 at 9am Webster Beach parking lot
Monday, September 6 at 9am Webster Beach parking lot

We wish to thank all the volunteers for keeping the Old Montauk Highway litter free. Your efforts are very much appreciated by the community.    When you give a little time you are really helping to keep Montauk beautiful. Plan to join the crew in 2010 and give your Association one hour of your time for a better Montauk.  Any questions, contact John Stikeman.

What's happening with the Incorporation of Montauk

Members,  thanks for your support in the effort to fight the Incorporation of Montauk.    At this point the effort seems to have lost steam and we are not seeing much in the press on this topic.  However,  we need to monitor this activity and be prepared to take action when the Incorporation campaign comes back to life -- which we think it will.  We don't believe the Incorporation of Montauk is the right direction and in the best interest of our community.   We are ready to stand and fight on this issue.   We hope you will be with us when the time comes.  Learn how you can help.

Thanks,  The MBPOA Board
